About personnel changes in the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Margulan CS MES RK

The Institute of Archeology named after A.Kh. Margulan of the Academy of Sciences of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan has undergone personnel changes over the past period.

On August 19, 2021, on the basis of the decision of the Competition Commission of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, candidate of historical sciences Akhan Onggaruly, a graduate of the Kazakh State University named after Al-Farabi, was appointed General Director of the Institute. In 2010 he defended the dissertation for a degree of the Candidate of Historical Sciences on a topic "Qazaq Altaiy men Jetısu ejelgı tūrğyndarynyñ jerleu ğūrpy". He began his career in 1999 at the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Margulan. He went from an ordinary employee to the head of the Branch of the Institute in Nur-Sultan. Until recently, he headed the Research Institute "Halyq qazynasy" of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan MCS of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Akan Ongaruly has experience of successful implementation of domestic and international scientific projects in the field of archaeology, ancient history and culture, as well as significant experience of field research. He completed a scientific internship in Japan, Germany, and Egypt. He is the author and co-author of over 130 works on archaeology of Kazakhstan (mainly on the problems of the early Iron Age) in Kazakh and foreign scientific publications

Candidate of Historical Sciences Talgat Mamirov, a graduate of Aktobe State University named after K. Zhubanov was approved as a Deputy Director for Science. Since 2004, T.Mamirov has been working at the A.Kh. Margulan Institute of Archaeology, where in 2010 he defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences on the topic "Paleolithic of the Aral-Caspian region". The area of ​ ​scientific interests is the problems of the Paleolithic-Neolithic of Kazakhstan. Author and co-author of more than 140 scientific publications and 7 monographs. T. Mamirov until his appointment served as a Director of the Institute Branch in Nur-Sultan. He is an active participant of international projects, the head and executor of domestic projects of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He is a member of the Coordinating Council for writing of the Concept of the History of Kazakhstan and the new history of the academic model, and the Council of Young Scientists under the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Anarali Abuov, who previously held the post of Deputy Director for administrative and economic affairs, was approved as Deputy Director for general affairs. A. Abuov is a graduate of the Faculty of History of the Kazakh Pedagogical Institute named after Abay (now KNPU named after Abay), began his career at the Central State Museum. From 1980 to 1995 worked as a Junior Researcher in the Department of the "Set of Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Kazakh SSR" Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography named after Ch.Walikhanov. In 1995, he switched to administrative and economic work. In different years, he held the posts of head of the administrative and economic department of the Central Asian Bank for Cooperation and Development, Almaty regional branch "People's Bank of Kazakhstan", logistics department of Kazpost JSC - Almaty Post Office, Procurement Department of KMG-Alatau LLP (Ak-Bulak Sports and Recreation Complex). Since 2013, he joined the A.Kh. Margulan Institute of Archaeology.

Candidate of Historical Sciences Ilya Merts, a graduate of Altai State University (Barnaul, Russia), was appointed scientific secretary. In 2017, at the Department of Archaeology, Ethnography and Museology of AltSU he defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences on the topic "Culture of the population of East Kazakhstan in the era of early bronze". His scientific interests are archaeology of the Bronze Age of Northern Eurasia, in particular the problems of cultural genesis, pottery, the formation of metallurgy and mining. He is an author and co-author of more than 60 scientific publications.

I. Merts began his career in 2009 at the Center for Archaeological Research named after A.Kh. Margulan at Pavlodar State University named after S. Toraigyrov. He went from a Laboratory Assistant to a Researcher. Member of a number of research projects of the RHSF of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as complex archaeological expeditions in Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia.

Ph.D Azat Aitkali, a graduate of Semipalatinsk State Pedagogical Institute (undergraduate) and KazNU named after Al-Farabi (magistracy), was appointed Director of the Institute Branch in Nur-Sultan. In 2011-2016 he worked at the Branch of the A.Kh. Margulan Institute of Archaeology in Nur-Sultan. He went from an engineer to a scientific secretary. In 2020, at the Department of Archaeology of Akdeniz University (Turkey, Antalya), he defended his Ph.D dissertation on the topic "Monuments of the ancient Turkic era of East Kazakhstan". Field of scientific interests: problems of archaeology of the era of the early nomads and the early Middle Ages. Author and co-author of more than 20 scientific publications. Member and head of a number of research projects of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as complex archaeological expeditions in Kazakhstan.
