Medieval urbanization department

For more than 28 years, the process of national and state building has continued to evolve in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Despite the complexity of modernization processes and transformations, in its main direction it is focused on achieving real sovereignty, creating a highly intellectual nation, a consolidated common historical and cultural memory. Archaeological science plays an important role in this process.

As an object of archaeological research, the territory of Kazakhstan seems to be a unique zone of coexistence of heterogeneous cultural-forming environments: both nomadic and settled-agricultural, from antiquity to ethnographic modernity. The study of ancient and medieval cultures on the territory of Kazakhstan is not only relevant, but also of ongoing interest in the context of the formation of a fundamental base of historical and archaeological knowledge in order to most effectively implement the "Rýhanı jańǵyrý" program and the "Seven Faces of the Great Steppe" in the conditions of modernization of society and the state.

An important period in the history of Kazakhstan is the Middle Ages. It was during this period that the cultural landscape and baggage formed, with which Kazakhstan left in New Time. During this period, such historical processes as urbanization, the formation of nomadic and settled states, the Great Silk Road, etc., are taking place on the territory of Kazakhstan. However, the medieval urbanization of Kazakhstan is not limited to the Silk Road. The staff of the Medieval Urbanization Department of the A.Kh are currently investigating this complex process. Margulan Institute of Archaeology.

The tasks of the Department of Medieval Urbanization of the A.Kh. Margulan Institute of Archaeology include:
