Candidate of Historical Sciences, Chief Researcher of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Margulan CS MES RK. Head of the Department of Medieval Urbanization.

Born in 12.06.1957 in the village Podgornoye, Lugovsky district, Dzhambul region.

He graduated from the Faculty of History of KazPI named after Abay (1978).

He defended his thesis on "Medieval cities on the Silk Road section from Taraz to Aspara". From 1980 to 1984 worked as secretary of the Alatau RK LKSM of Kazakhstan, Almaty. In 1993 - laureate of the prize of young scientists named after A.Kh. Margulan of Kazakhstan. From 1984 to the present, a researcher at the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Margulan.

Since 1988, the head of the SKAE detachment, since 2010, the head of the Jetysu archaeological expedition of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Margulan MES RK.

Scientific interests:

Medieval cities of South Kazakhstan and Jetysu. (fortification of settlements, topography, localization and chronology issues). The priority areas of archaeology in which A.A. Nurzhanov is currently actively working are the genesis and development of settled and urban culture in the South and Southeast of Kazakhstan, as well as the evolution of the specific and universal characteristics of medieval urban culture of Kazakhstan. He has repeatedly made scientific presentations at international conferences and meetings in both Kazakhstan and abroad (Moscow, Kazan, Kiev, St. Petersburg, Ashgabat, Izmir and Barcelona).

The author of two monographs, more than 170 scientific and popular science articles.
